NOW CASTING: Paid Voice Acting Roles

It’s time for your star to shine! We are casting three (3) voice acting roles for an explainer video about the Squamish Nation Constitution Project.

Step 1: Select the role you will be auditioning for.

Step 2: Record your best take.

Step 3: Submit your recording as an email attachment to auditions@constitutionproject.net by December 3rd.

We aren’t expecting professional recordings. Voice memos work great. For other casting considerations, click HERE

NOTE: Due to the anticipated volume of submissions, we may not be able to get back to everyone individually. Those selected for callbacks will hear from us by December 10th. We know that putting yourself out there is a brave and vulnerable experience, and we humbly thank each person who auditions.

Role 1: Ancestor

  • Female, Age 30+
  • Squamish Nation Member
  • Voiceover ONLY

Blending Gen Alpha slang and Aunty smarts, this Ancestor adds humour and wisdom to any discussion. She’s gonna make you care about the constitution, whether you want to or not. After all, today’s youth are tomorrow’s ancestors.

TO SUBMIT: Please send one voice recording of the below script to auditions@constitutionproject.net. Use “ANCESTOR” as the subject line, and include your 10 digit band number in the body. We recommend another person reads the YOUTH lines, if possible.

SCRIPT:
Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I am auditioning for the role of ANCESTOR.

Youth: Please. Please help me, creator. Tell me what to do.

Ancestor: No cap, you need to chill.

Youth: Wait what … Who are you?

Ancestor: I’m the power of your imagination.

Youth: [sighs, annoyed]

Ancestor: Neh! I’m your ancestor.

Youth: How are YOU my ancestor?

Ancestor: Oh you want me to explain? Skoden! So there’s this constitution.

Youth: No good story begins with a constitution.

Ancestor: This one does. And it starts one hundred years ago.

Role 2: Youth

  • Any gender, Age 10-25
  • Squamish Nation Member
  • Voiceover ONLY

This youth is from 100 years in the future. They always ask the right questions—even if they sometimes go about it the wrong way. Cheeky but earnest, they represent the audience point of view.

TO SUBMIT: Please send one voice recording of the below script to auditions@constitutionproject.net. Use “YOUTH” as the subject line, and include your 10 digit band number in the body. We recommend another person reads the ANCESTOR lines, if possible.

Role 3: Narrator

  • Any gender, Age 20+
  • Squamish Nation Member
  • Voiceover ONLY

Our narrator is the glue that holds the explainer together. A balance of humour, heart, and hard-hitting facts, theirs is the voice that resonates long after the video’s ended. They take the constitution seriously, but make it accessible, relevant, and fun.

TO SUBMIT: Please send one voice recording of the below script to auditions@constitutionproject.net. Use “NARRATOR” as the subject line, and include your 10 digit band number in the body.

SCRIPT:
Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I am auditioning for the role of NARRATOR.

As I was trying to say, research suggests that a clear shared vision, widespread support and good governance are the best predictors of a thriving nation.

It’s a fact: Working in unity makes our Nation stronger and results in better outcomes. And that’s the goal of this constitution.

How do we protect our lands now and for future generations? What are our rights and responsibilities? Who can who can be recognized as a Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Stélmexw (Squamish Person)?

All of that is ours to determine. Success is a choice we can make.

So how do we wanna be going forward?

Casting Considerations

While we do our best to ensure that the recording process is an enjoyable one, it can also be hard work. For some people, being asked to “perform” may be awkward, uncomfortable, or even frustrating. With the understanding that we are casting real Squamish Nation Members and not professional voice actors, we want to be transparent about the process.

  • The actors will be in studio recording for several hours
  • Multiple members of the project team will be attending the recording session, including the Art Director, Writer, Creative Director, Client, and Sound Engineer
  • Feedback will be provided throughout the process
  • Actors must be coachable and willing to deliver lines repeatedly and in different styles
  • They must also be able to adjust the pace of their delivery, speaking more slowly or quickly depending on what’s required
